Leonard Cohen wasn’t drawn to perfect lives or polished answers. He sought what had been weathered, lived in, scarred. His early years were shaped by poetry, his later ones by Zen silence. What connected it all was a deep listening to what broke. He didn’t just believe the broken parts could still be beautiful — he believed they were the only parts that ever truly could. He also believed beauty took effort: Hallelujah alone had over 80 verses before he let it go. Imperfection wasn’t a shortcut — it was crafted.
